Praesepe (M44; NGC 2632)

An open cluster of stars in the constellation Cancer lying at a distance of 500 light years. Its brightest stars are about sixth magnitude, and more than 200 members are known. In many ways it is similar to the Hyades, even sharing the same direction and speed of motion through space; this suggests that the two clusters originated in the same interstellar cloud.
